So now you know Im a bit nuts having 5 dogs but to be honest we have got off lightly! There is a saying that Spanish Settlers collect a dog for every year theyve been living in Spain – thankfully we don’t have 21!!
Which brings me on to charities – there isn’t a lot going on as the Spanish have a culture of helping each other, in sickness and in old age, which is really nice – unless of course you don’t like the relatives!
Cudeca is a fabulous one started many years ago to provide respite for people suffering with cancer. Fully funded by the public znd me well after getting our third doggy from the killing station, I started to have my eyes opened to the inordinate cruelty and abuse many dogs suffer, in Spain yes but also worldwide.
And I thought well, maybe somehow we can help. We cant change it overnight but we can make a difference to some lives , and surely, isn’t this what humanity is about? Helping those less fortunate than ourselves? To give a good example for our kids to follow?? We support our company’s children’s charity and wanted to now reach out to the doggies too.
And so I started by dropping off and collecting tins for coins for the Last Chance Animal Rescue headed by Jacqui Ross. Then somehow I got roped into a fundraiser with Kaye Springthorpe of the KBar La Heredia, to attend the 2014 Christmas Fayre, from there I helped organise the Easter Fayre and now, I have jumped in with all 2 feet and both arms into my first ever fundraiser, a Murder Mystery Theatre Dinner!!
Bricking it isn’t the word – I really have no idea of how its going to go but hey, people will get a 4 course meal, wine and cava for only 25 euros each and entertainment of some sorts!!!
